Former Rongrara-Siju MLA Rophul S. Marak has alleged that illegal coal mining is being carried out and fresh coal dumped in and around Nongalbibra, Jadigittim, Ga’regittim, Darangdura and adjoining areas.
In an filed FIR at Nongalbibra Police Station today, Marak said that despite of total ban on coal mining and illegal transportation in the entire state of Meghalaya by the Supreme Court and that there is PIL No 2 of 2022 and other PILs pending in the Meghalaya High Court with regards to illegal coal mining transportation of coal in the entire State, however there is no respite or stopping of illegal coal mining and transportation being carried out particularly in Nongalbibra and its adjoining areas.
“Therefore, I humbly request your good self to kindly register the FIR and investigate the matter and accordingly take appropriate actions against the persons or individuals who are indulging with such illegal coal mining and illegal transportation of coal in Nongalbibra area,” Marak said in his FIR.
