Due to the bad condition of the Shillong – Dawki road, the Meghalaya government has now instructed National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to ensure that repair work was done immediately along with construction of the new road.
Speaking to media persons today, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the State government has seen the bad condition of the road and hence, had made immediate arrangements to ensure that the repair of the fourth package which is closer towards Dawki starts immediately.
“NHIDCL has given us confirmation that they will be starting the repair work within a few days time and they have ensured that the quality is maintained for the repair. But as you are aware that while the repair takes place, the construction work also is going side by side. So while the repair takes place for the season, immediately the construction work and the other parts also will start at the same time,” Sangma said.
The chief minister also informed that the work order for the first package from Umshyrpi to Upper Shillong and beyond has also been allotted and the contractor to whom the work was allotted is expected to start the work very soon.
Sangma mentioned that the contractor has mobilised some machinery and manpower and by next week more manpower and machinery will be mobilised and the work should start very soon.
