The second season of the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) was officially launched today by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Khyndailad here.

In the first season, around 1,600 performers were given opportunities to perform at cafes, busking areas and at special events over 10 months as part of the project, which has organised around 3,000 music events, the majority of which have been in Shillong but which have also taken in Tura, Jowai and Sohra.

“Today, we embark on a journey to celebrate the soul of Meghalaya through music,” Sangma said today. “Our state is a treasure trove of talent, and the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project Season 2 is our way of showcasing our vibrant culture and nurturing our local musicians.”

This year the project will not only encompass music but also folklore, drama, stand-up comedy, etc, the CM stated.

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh, meanwhile, said that more locations will host MGMP events across all districts.

Bands that performed today were the Sur Ki Nongkyndong, Colours and Na u Bnai.
