The College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong today kick started its Diamond Jubilee Celebration at a programme held at the auditorium of the College.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma attended the celebration as the chief guest. In inaugural speech, he lauded the institute for rendering its services in producing thousands of teachers who are serving the state in the education sector and in providing a platform for the teachers to specialize in the art of teaching.
He added that with the advancement of technology, people often rely on it for various purposes. He urged students to use their natural intelligence and to limit the use of technology.
Stating that the future of the community, the state and the next generation will be defined by the teachers, the minister urged the students to diligently take the responsibility and commitment in ensuring to make every individual a productive member of the society.
During the programme, the College Diamond Jubilee Logo & Theme were also unveiled.
Others who were present included Education Department Adviser, Himalaya M Shangpliang, W L Lyngdoh, President of the College Governing Body, Dr M A Jyrwa, Principal, College of Teacher Education (PGT) among others.
