The Rabindranath Tagore Club of Laban belatedly celebrated the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Sunday as well as holding a prize distribution ceremony for its 13th Inter Shillong Cultural Event 2023 at Asom Kristi Kendra Auditorium, Dhankheti, here.
Among the dignitaries were Sanbor Shullai MLA, advisor to the Chief Minister Naba Bhattacharjee and renowned musician, writer and educationalist Silbi Passah.
The programme began with a Ganesh Vandana dance by Shreya Das and Mridani Dey, followed by a group song from the students of Swaranjali Music School, Oakland.
The club president, Pankaj Deb, gave a brief report of the club and the cultural event.
Students performed solo dances, group dances, song, etc and the overall champion award went to Debopriya Dasgupta.
Club patron Falguni Chakraborty’s book Khublei Shillong was released at the event. Also included was the prize distribution for the Rabindra Sangeet, folk song, dance on Tagore songs, English recitation, Bengali recitation, art, essay, Antakshree, rangoli, games and dance on Hindi song competitions.
A special trophy for best performance in Rabindra Sangeet was awarded to Pratyaee Deb Choudhary. The best performance in folk song was won by Priya Roy, while Debopriya Dasgupta won the award for dance on Tagore songs. Other winners included Shreyoshi Paul for recitation.
