Cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh weighed in on the demand for a state winter capital in Tura, saying that the idea should not be entertained.
The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) is holding a hunger strike in Tura over this demand and for retrospective implementation of the roster system.
Yesterday, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) argued against the winter capital idea.
Today, Lyngdoh said that Community and Rural Development blocks have been created to bring administration closer to the public. She also informed that the Chief Minister will be visiting Garo Hills and will be meeting ACHIK on July 24.
“I personally feel that these demands should not be entertained. If you’re going to have spring, autumn, winter, monsoon sessions and capitals everywhere, then I think the administration will miss the point,” Lyngdoh said.
The minister mentioned that the very fact that so many C&RD blocks have recently been installed and put in position is to bring administration closer to the public.
“If we consider the demand, it will become difficult for us to administrate. The very fact that MLAs or ministers are now going all the way to various parts of the district, with that one intention we can come to your district to review your matters. To take care of matters and be there to make sure that you do not feel left out in governance but we can’t have summer capital there or winter or spring capital there. It’s not possible,” she added.
