Land owners of Sangriang Mawpon area in West Khasi Hills have expressed concern over the delay of the State government to start the works for Kynshi hydro power project which was estimated to generate 450 Megawatts of electricity.
An organisation of the land owners known as Synjuk Ki Trai Jaka Sangriang Mawpon Area today said that the Brahmaputra Board which was entrusted to carry out a survey of the project has completed its report.
Synjuk’s vice president Roshem Myrthong told media persons that Athena Power which has been allotted to operate the proposed power project has signed land agreements with land owners for acquisition of their land at Nongummer, Mawjai, New Mawjai, Nongriniang, Sangriang, Mawhiangruda, Mawpon, Mynraw and others.
“The company and land owners have agreed that the rate of land will be as the existing rate of the government,” Myrthong said.
He also said that Athena Power has promised to provide free electricity to local villagers besides employment and other contract works.
“We request the MLAs of Nongstoin, Ranikor and Mawshynrut to take up this matter with the State government so that the power project could be started and result in power augmentation for the State apart from assured benefits to our local villagers,” Myrthong said.
