Congress MDC from Mylliem, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh today justified the reasons for his party’s support to the no-confidence motion moved by the NPP against the UDP-led Executive Committee in KHADC.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said that Congress decided to support the motion as it did not want Governor’s rule to be imposed in KHADC in the event of a crisis where no party could form the EC.
“Keeping in mind the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule that is pending in Parliament, the Congress fears the imposition of the Governor’s Rule in the KHADC would lead to hurried passing of the amendment bill in Parliament. If the EC is there, at least we can oppose any clause in the amendment that is against the interest of the council,” he said.
He said that the fact that the NPP being a major partner, decided to disassociate itself from the UDP, showed that everything was not okay and that even the NPP no longer wanted to work with Titos Chyne.
On Chyne’s allegations that the Congress was willing to work with the NPP, considered as Team-B of the BJP, Lyngdoh said that the mandates in the State Assembly and KHADC are at different levels.
