A 12-year old girl was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted by a 31-year old man after barging into her house in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
According to police sources, the accused who hails from Mairang in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, had forcibly entered the house and sexually and physically assaulted the minor on June 15, when her family members weren’t home.
A rape case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act was registered against the accused who was arrested.
The child bore multiple injuries and under medical observation at a hospital in Shillong.
Meanwhile, the Rongmei Phwam Shillong (Rongmei Society Shillong) has expressed displeasure and condemned the heinous and murderous act.
“The minor has been mentally terrorized and traumatized by the ghastly act which she will suffer lifelong,” Dr. Gaithoiliu Phaomei General Secretary of the society said in a statement today.
The society said the accused deserves to be punished with the harshest possible punishment as per law. “Persons with such thirst for anti-social activities have brought social disorder and shame to the society, and even instil fear and raise safety concerned in the society,” Phaomei added.
Lauding the police for swift intervention and speedy arrest of the perpetrator, the society has appealed for speedy justice for the survivor and to keep check on any attempt to subdue the justice deliverance by the accused.
