The State government has sought the intervention of the Union Ministry of Education after students from Meghalaya were allocated CUET centres outside the state.
In a letter to Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma Sangma drew his attention that students from the State were allocated centres such as Ranchi, Jharkhand, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kolkata and other Southern states of the country.
“This left the students and their parents in disbelief and dismay and also has caused significant inconvenience and logistical challenges for the students, who were already preparing for the examination under the assumption that the centres would be allocated closer to their home,” he said.
Informing the Union Minister that the admit cards were issued on June 14 while students have to appear the CUET on June 16, the Chief Minister said there is very little time to make the necessary arrangements for travel and accommodation in other states.
“Such arrangements made by the NTA have deprived the students of our State the opportunity to pursue their education in other central universities located in different parts of the country,” he added.
The Chief Minister urged Pradhan to intervene and issue necessary direction to NTA to make alternative arrangements in respect of the students of Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that the State has already requested the NTA to set up the CUET centres in all 12 districts of the State in institutions which are having adequate infrastructure and testing facilities for CUET examination.
