A second inquiry was required to probe the allegedly illegal appointment of a teacher in Gasbari Non-Government Lower Primary School, West Garo Hills, after stakeholders complained about how “untrustworthy” the original inquiry was.
The case centres around Karimul Islam, who was appointed as an assistant teacher at the school allegedly without following relevant norms, such as having passed the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET).
Complaints were made to the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) of Dadenggre, Rajen Hajong, signed by various stakeholders, from the village to pressure groups.
However, the complainants were unhappy with the way Hajong reportedly conducted the inquiry, claiming that he was not trustworthy and that his probe was not free, fair nor genuine since it was held in Selsella.
Education authorities in Shillong then directed the District School Education Officer of Tura to hold a second inquiry and this was done today through the taking of statements.
The officer reportedly assured that Islam will be removed from his post if it is found that the appointment was done unlawfully.
