The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Jowai, under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, today organised a one day District Level Yuva Utsav – India @ 2047 at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, here.
The main theme of this Yuva Utsav is ‘PANCH PRAN’ and its objective is to develop India, to remove any trace of colonial mindsets, to take pride in the country’s heritage and legacy, to promote national unity and solidarity and to bring a sense of duty among the citizens.
Jowai Central MDC AH Andrew Shullai was the chief guest and Additional Deputy Commissioner MA Challam the guest of honour.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Shullai extended his best wishes to all participants and the organisers. He appreciated the organisers of NYK Jowai for the initiative taken providing a platform for the youths of the district to showcase their talent.
Earlier, D Rapsang, Deputy Director of NYKS Shillong, briefed about the objectives of the programme, informing that the main objective was to create an opportunity for youths to explore their talent and skill.
Participants were involved in different activities like painting, poetry, mobile photography, declamation contest and cultural festival. Winners will go on to take part at the state level event to be held in Shillong and the winners of that will represent Meghalaya at the national level.
More than 211 boys and girls from the three blocks of West Jaintia Hills participated.
In the Valedictory Session, Jowai North MDC Brightstar Chyrmang was the chief guest and HH Mohrmen the guest of honour.
Prizes and certificates were distributed to winning participants. In the declamation contest, Paiya Venessa Lyngdoh bagged first prize, Bymonmisalda Lato second and Riiung Langbang third. In mobile photography Ri-O Sari took first, Mekerda Bareh second and Marbudki Phawa third.
In the cultural event, the Manchwa kam family bagged first place, with second prize going to Catherine Sna and third to the Sengkur Suting Welfare organisation.
In the young writer contest (poetry), Rewa Phawa was first, Jied Dkhar second and Teilang Phawa third.
