Voice of the People Party (VVP) president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit reaffirmed his party’s stand on the job reservation policy
Speaking to media persons soon after staging his indefinite hunger strike today outside the main secretariat here, Basaiawmoit said that the objective of the fast is to pressurise the State government to review the job reservation policy.
When asked, he said that there is no question of expecting the government to invite the party for a talk.
“What we want is for the government to straight away inform us that the job reservation policy will be reviewed,” Basaiawmoit said, adding that the root cause of the employment problem the youth are facing today is the job reservation policy.
“It is not the roster. Roster is the effect and the reservation policy is the root cause of the entire problem. This reservation policy is not proportionate to the population,” he maintained.
“We are serious and we will continue till the government responds to us positively,” the VPP chief added.
Meanwhile, party workers of Mawsynram and Nongstoiñ also staged a protest in front of the residence of their respective MLAs.
The VPP, Mawsynram workers led by Organising Secretary Rusievan Shangpliang held a sit-in demonstration at Mawlai Umshing here, in front of the resident of MLA Ollan Singh Suin while party workers in Nongstoiñ, protested near the resident of MLA Gabriel Wahlang at Pyndengrei.
Shangpliang said the protest is to show support to the party chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit in his indefinite hunger strike that started from today. He said the MLAs should not remain mute spectators on the reservation policy issue. During the last all party meeting our MLA did not utter a word, he added.
VPP Nongstoiñ Joint Secretary Davis Franky Wahlang said the review of the reservation policy issue is what concerns all youth and the public representatives should speak up.
