The HNLC today said that it was not sure whether the proposed formal peace talks with the government would bear any fruits and how long the talks would be completed.
In a statement issued today, HNLC general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said that the outfit has high hopes of a positive outcome from the talks which are set to begin from June.
“However, we cannot ascertain as to how long this talk process will take and whether it will be a success because so far only the Mizoram peace talks achieved the Mizo peace accord of 1986. The rest of the peace talks reached nowhere and ended only on paper or in promises by the government,” Nongtraw said.
He also said that by coming forward for peace talk the HNLC did not surrender itself but only wanted a political solution to the problems of the ‘Hynniewtrep nation’.
“Our nation has a political history. Our aspiration is not for separation or integration but for recognition whether within or without. The government has to give a permanent solution to all our issues,” Nongtraw added.
