The National People’s Party (NPP) is not too unhappy by defeat in the recent Sohiong by-election as the victor was none other than its friend and ally the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the two should be able to move forwards in harmony, cabinet minister and NPP member Ampareen Lyngdoh said today.
The two parties had been involved in a bitter war of words, with the NPP slinging all manner of threats at its coalition partner in the run-up to the polls.
Today, Lyngdoh said that the two parties know that an election is one thing but being in government is another.
“There have been no negative or adversarial feelings because we now have shown our ability to look at election as a field job and running the government as a completely different assignment,” she said on the sidelines of a programme.
“We are now looking towards moving forwards in this coalition partnership and we hope that very shortly we will also be able to sit across the table to discuss our common minimum programme. This election was a deferred election, we had to wait for it to be completed and I do not anticipate that there should be complications,” Lyngdoh added.
