Residents of Nongladew village in Ri Bhoi are among those who have taken ill after having food at a funeral in Mariampur village of Goalpara district.
Over 30 people have been admitted to the Patharkhmah PHC on May 10. All the patients have taken ill after consuming fish at the funeral.
Medical officer of the CHC, Dr. L. Gashnga informed that a team from the Office of District Medical and Health Officer has arrived to collect samples for testing. The samples will undergo analysis to determine the cause of the illness.
He said that most of the patients are out of danger and some were discharged after their condition was stated to be stable.
The A’chik Organisation for Social Welfare (AOSW) in Garo Hills had alerted about the incident yesterday as many of the people in the village borders of Adokgre and Kharkutta were admitted to healthcare centres of suspected food poisoning.
Similarly in Assam, Joint Director (Health) Paresh Kalita told reporters that more than 100 have been admitted to Goalpara Civil Hospital and other hospitals in the district of food poisoning caused by fish at the funeral.
