The registration for seats in the school bus service pilot project is open and parents and guardians have been urged to fill out the form as soon as possible as there are limited openings.
The STEMS (Sustainable Transport and Efficient Mobility Society) buses will currently only run on a trial basis for schools in Laitumkhrah and Dhanketi in Shillong, with 900 seats available.
Thirty buses have been equipped with GPS, CCTV camera, live location tracking, etc to ease parents’ minds and take up the scheme, which is part of the state government’s desire to reduce Shillong’s awful traffic jams.
In all, the government hopes to roll out 100 STEMS buses when the project gets going in earnest.
Through a release issued today, STEMS CEO Isawanda Laloo said that seats can be booked through a dedicated mobile app, STEMS Meghalaya.
“Interested parents may download the mobile application which is now live on the Google Play Store and proceed for registering their children/wards,” Laloo said. “The manual for step-by-step registration has been uploaded on https://stems-meghalaya.nic.in/ for reference and will also be circulated to parents through the school authorities. The app will also shortly be available on the iOS App Store.”
The bus routes and the selection of students for the pilot phase will be done after the registration process is completed and will be based on demand.
