It is very disappointing to note that while everyone talks of unemployment in Meghalaya, barely will anyone look on to the other side of serving beyond the State borders.
The UPSC twice year gives out an open advertisement for enrollment to the NDA as well as in the IMA examination there is also a Combined Defence Services examination where qualified and eligible candidates could choose to join any wings of the military. There is a scattered number at a very marginal percentage of youngsters from our State in the army and various paramilitary forces, but barely in the navy or air force.
The local Defence PRO located in Shillong should initiate along with institutions and government departments to create mass awareness in all districts of the State for any entry in the defence services so that there is a sense of enthusiasm, patriotism, unity and knowledge amongst many.
