The Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Mawdiangdiang will soon see the light of day.
The centre with the state-of-the-art equipments will be a great boon for cancer patients who have to travel outside the state for treatment.
NEIGRIHMS Director Dr Nalin Mehta said work is almost complete and most of the equipment has arrived. “There was a little delay in handing over because of various constraints starting from the delay in the project because of COVID and eventually getting some equipment especially some that came by sea owing to the current global crisis. But now things are on track and we are hoping to have everything said and done by probably the end of May,” he informed.
It is expected that a grand inauguration will be done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Regional Cancer Centre at NEIGRIHMS is a composite unit having all three branches of oncology – Surgical, Medical and Radiation Oncology.
The construction work was carried out by Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) company an Indian Multinational conglomerate Company.
Concerning manpower, Dr Mehta said recruitment was done phase wise. He said the first round of recruitment concluded and the instituted will put up a “rolling advertisement”, which would be valid for the entire year.
“So as and when we get applications of specific time points we have already given a few time points for example May 31, being one cutoff date, so as many applications are received by those cutoff dates we will hold interviews and recruit and employ,” Dr Mehta added.
Apart from the RCC, a medical College, nursing college and a guest house has also been constructed.
