Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh has said that ‘fast-track’ disqualification of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is ‘surprising’ and done with an intention to silence the voices of opposition.
Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha, a day after his conviction by the Surat court in the criminal defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark.
“Is this rapid disqualification of Gandhi as a Lok Sabha member, a want to deliver justice for whatever he had said, or, a pretext to silence the voices of the opposition and to protect Mr. Adani or other activities not in the interest of the nation?” Lyngdoh asked while speaking to Highland Post today.
Stating that he has nothing to say against the judgment of the court, he however said that Gandhi is challenging the action perpetrated by the BJP and the BJP wants to silence his voice because Gandhi has the courage to speak up against all the actions of this present government.
“He (Gandhi) simply asked, what is the relation between Adani and the honourable Prime Minister of the country. Is it a crime to ask this in the parliament? If in this highest policy making forum of the country a leader of the opposition cannot ask a question then where do he ask?” he queried.
Stating that every parliamentarian and legislator is given a privilege that no one can interfere with what transpired in the parliament, he said, “If there you asked a question and you don’t get an answer then where do you go to get answers for your questions. The country is concerned about this.”
“I don’t think that his disqualification is justice done for whatever he said, but a pretext to shut his voice permanently in the highest policy making forum of the country,” he added.
