The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has assessed the emergency department of Shillong’s Supercare Hospital and found that it complies with the board’s standards for hospital emergency departments in India.
The NABH accreditation programme sets standards for healthcare facilities in India, including emergency care services, to ensure that they meet certain quality and safety standards. The NABH standards are currently the highest benchmark standard for hospital quality in India.
The standards for emergency certification provide the framework for quality care and patient safety to patients admitted to the emergency department. These standards help an organisation maintain continuous quality improvement. They aim at setting expectations for the provision of equitable, safe and high-quality emergency care in the country, thereby ensuring top-notch clinical outcomes.
After a rigorous inspection process to validate 44 quality standards involving 255 different objective elements, Supercare was granted this certification, making it the first and only hospital in Meghalaya to get NABH quality recognition for its emergency department, a hospital press release said today. Supercare is also only the second hospital in the entire North East to achieve this feat.
“The emergency repartment in Supercare has 10 beds equipped with all vital patient monitoring systems, point-of-care diagnostics, centralised oxygen lines, essential drugs and other equipment needed for high-quality medical care to the patient,” it said. “The emergency department also includes two beds equipped with a ventilator to handle critical cases requiring immediate attention.”
Hospital founder and Managing Director, Dr RS Thangkhiew, said, “It has always been my desire for our organisation to be forerunner in this region when it comes to setting standards in quality healthcare. We demonstrated our commitment when we became the first hospital in Meghalaya to get the full NABH accreditation in September 2022 and this NABH stamp of quality for our emergency department is another feather in our cap.”
