Spinning comments made by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma yesterday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) state vice-president, George B Lyngdoh, said that the National People’s Party (NPP) has finally recognised it as a force in Meghalaya politics.
Yesterday, at a rally in Adokgre, Sangma had said that TMC legislators are already sizing up which party they will defect to once the February 27 election results are declared, the implication being that the party will not be in power nor will its members be loyal.
Responding to the comments, Lyngdoh said, “We thank Conrad for finally acknowledging that the TMC is now the new political force and they (the NPP) have to buy TMC leaders to try to be back in power.”
The TMC leader, who was formerly of the Congress Party, said that the NPP has realised that it cannot depend on their own candidates to win the polls but will have to try and buy support from others.
“Conrad has already negotiated with their masters in Guwahati and Delhi. If the TMC wins with an overwhelming majority, as is being yearned for by the responsible citizens of the state, then the BJP-NPP’s action plan is to buy the TMC MLAs,” Lyngdoh added.
