The Revenue & Disaster Management Department, in a notification, has informed that a total of 46.735 acres of land is required by the state government from 7th Mile, Upper Shillong, Pomlum to Lwai village in East Khasi Hills for the two-laning of the Shillong-Nongstoiñ-Tura Road on National Highway 44.

The notification was made under provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, a piece of central government legislation.

A social impact assessment has been conducted by the Meghalaya Institute of Governance and an independent expert group has submitted the report on the SIA study. A plan of the land may be inspected in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on any working day.

The DC and her staff have been authorised to enter and survey the land, take levels of any land, dig or bore into the sub-soil and carry out all other acts required for the proper execution of their work as provided and specified in the act. The land in question cannot now be part of any transaction without prior approval of the District Collector.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner has been appointed as administrator for the purpose of rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected families and objections, if any, may be filed within 60 days from the date of publication.
