The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) representing eight major students movement in the seven North East states has decided to observe a ‘Black Day’ on December 11 to remind the people of the North East that on December 11, 2019, despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples of the North East against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 the Central government went ahead with passing of the bill in parliament.
“In continuation of this observation of this Black Day, the NESO has decided that there will be a display of black flags and black banners in all the important places of all the seven states,” a statement issued by NESO chairman Samuel B. Jyrwa said.
Terming the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 as a draconian law, Jyrwa said that NESO would always mark the 11th of December as a black day for the whole of the North East.
“This observation is to give a message to the Government of India that we are against this Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and also at the same time to remind our people and our posterior of yet another political injustice that the Government of India perpetrated on the indigenous peoples of the North East.
NESO calls upon all the people of the North East to support this observation and at the same time to keep on fighting for the just cause of our God given right,” Jyrwa added.
