The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) unit in Ri-Bhoi today filed a complaint against Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd with the district’s Deputy Commissioner and calling for a halt in work on laying a gas pipeline through Ri-Bhoi that is aimed at serving several North East states.
According to the pressure group, Indradhanush, a joint venture of IOC, ONGC, GAIL, IOL, NRL, has not obtained a no-objection certificate (NOC) and permission from village dorbars for the project. It also claimed that only landowners were invited to a public hearing and not all villagers who would be affected by the project.
Indradhanush has been tasked by the central government with constructing a gas pipeline to connect the remote North East region, which otherwise depends on road supply, and enhance and accelerate the availability of clean fuel and other petroleum products.
