Certain Trinamool Congress MLAs will not receive backing from the party to contest the 2023 state election, TMC state chief and leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma said today.
This is leading these sitting legislators to try and find other parties willing to accept them.
“We know that we are not projecting some of the TMC candidates so they are bound to look for other political parties. It is a fact that some of the TMC candidates are not being projected by the parties as their candidates,” he told reporters today.
Dr Sangma said that talks are still on and that the party is being analytical because they will have to agree for any candidature of any sitting MLA or former MLAs on the basis of whether they meet the criterion of standing a good chance of winning in their constituency.
To the claim that some TMC MLAs will join the NPP, he said that the NPP is also not projecting some of their legislators as candidates at the next election, which is meant to be held by March 2023.
“What will they do? Have I not said that there will be a number of MLAs who will switch sides as we come closer and closer to the election? This is what you’re seeing, it has already been predicted and is precisely what is happening,” he said, adding that there is an internal rift even in the NPP. “That’s why you will see many of these NPP members switching sides.”
