Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today laid the foundation stone for setting up of Fire & Emergency Service Station in Raliang and inaugurated the greater water supply scheme there and wayside amenities under Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
During his visit, the chief minister also distributed piglets, poultry chicks and cheque under FOCUS to the beneficiaries.
At the function, the chief minister reiterated how the government worked tirelessly to ensure that overall infrastructure reaches the state through many programs, policies and schemes.
He spoke how farmers are being accorded the top priority. Mentioning about Piggery Mission, he said the government is stressing and putting a lot of emphasis on the piggery mission and the poultry mission to increase the meat production in the State and also as means to increase the income of the farmers.
With the high demand for pork in the state, he said about 16, 000 metric tons if converted into money is 630 cores worth of pork is consumed in Meghalaya annually. He said the main purpose of the mission is to bridge the gap between supply and demand in the State.
During his visit, the chief minister distributed 1068 piglets distributed to 267 beneficiaries, kuroiler poultry birds to 50 beneficiaries, Rs 2.07 lakhs under ‘FOCUS+’ Farmers’ Welfare Programme to 207 producer households, Rs 5.40 lakh to 13 youth groups under YESS programme and disbursed CIF amounting to Rs 61.80 lakhs to 10 village organisations.
