Brig BD Mishra (retd), the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, today took on the additional charge of Governor of Meghalaya and was sworn in here today.
Brig Mishra takes over from Satya Pal Malik, whose tenure ended today.
Acting Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Harman Singh Thangkhiew, administered the oath.
Brig Mishra recalled that this was not his first visit to Shillong, as he had been here in 1971 during the Bangladesh War.
“It’s a beautiful place with wonderful people and I’m impressed,” he said.
Speaker of the Assembly Metbah Lyngdoh and cabinet ministers Lahkmen Rymbui, Banteidor Lyngdoh and Hamletson Dohling were among those present at the swearing-in ceremony, joined by senior civil servants.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was not present but wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations and best wishes to @BrigMishraJi as he takes charge as the Governor of Meghalaya. Look forward to his counsel and support….We welcome him to our beautiful state!”
Brig Mishra had served the Indian Army in three major wars, namely in 1962, 1965 and 1971. He took charge as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on October 3, 2017.
