Newly elected president of the Mahila Trinamool Congress Committee, Selma D. Shira today said that in order to play a key role in the political arena of the State, women need to possess political awareness.
“Being the president of the Mahila Trinamool Congress Committee, my first and foremost vision is to uplift the living standards of women in the State,” she said.
Commenting on the deteriorating state of women’s safety and security in Meghalaya, Shira highlighted that in order to play a key role in the political arena women need to possess political awareness.
She further added that in order to concretise her visions, she would start interacting and conducting group discussions with the district Mahila Congress Committee and the block-level Mahila Committee of the Trinamool Congress in their respective places.
“The block level would work at the grassroots level and interact with the women in order to impart political awareness among the women,” she added.
It may be mentioned that on September 26, the Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Congress constituted their women wing – Meghalaya Mahila Trinamool Congress Committee with a strength of 18 members.
The women’s wing of Trinamool Congress aims to create a space for the active involvement of women in spreading the visions of the party across the State.
While Selma D. Shira has been appointed as the president, three others – Mehalin S. Marak, Kathleen Marbaniang, and June E. Marak were appointed as the vice presidents.
