Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma dismissed out of hand any thought of debating the Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) national spokesperson, saying he cannot debate any Tom, Dick or Harry.
Recently, Saket Gokhale dared Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to a face-to-face debate before the media on alleged misgovernance of the state government.
“Who is he? I don’t know him. There can be many people from any part of the country today who come out and say to have a debate on this and that issue. I cannot have a debate with any Tom, Dick or Harry. I don’t know the person so I have nothing to say,” Sangma said.
Gokhale’s challenge came after Tynsong chose not to respond to the accusations of the TMC on matters relating to Shillong Smart City Ltd, collapse of the new Meghalaya Assembly dome and alleged anomalies in contract processes.
Tynsong told reporters that if Gokhale wants a reply he should come to Shillong and that the TMC, which is the chief opposition in Meghalaya, was trying to create confusion for political mileage.
In a letter to Tynsong, Gokhale said, “Any date in the first week of October at your convenience is suitable for me. I eagerly hope you will accept my offer and await your response.”
