The Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), a pressure group in the State has openly asked the banned Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to take up issues concerning the state during its peace talks with the government.
According to HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani, the militant outfit was started with the motive to protect the rights of the indigenous people of the State.
The group held a press conference here today to lay down the issues which they felt the HNLC should raise during the peace talks.
Kharbani said they want the militant outfit to include the Inner Line Permit (ILP), border issues and inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. He stated that these issues if discussed and taken to the table would usher peace in the State.
“The sacrifices of the HNLC leaders its members is pointless if these issues are not settled by the government” Kharbani said.
