The Urban Affairs Department has finalised the proposal for the construction of a solid waste processing and disposal plant of 10 tons per day at Khliehriat at an estimated cost of Rs13.37 crore.
The plant will cater to the needs of both Jowai and Khliehriat, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills respectively.
The solid waste processing and disposal plant would be set up within 12 months.
The department has invited expressions of interest from bidders to construct the waste processing and disposal plant and the bidding process is expected to be completed by the beginning of October.
A 15-day time-frame has been set for evaluation of the bid documents and a further 15-day period for submission of security deposit and execution of the agreement.
The detailed report regarding the proposed waste processing and disposal plant was filed by the Urban Affairs Department before the division bench of Meghalaya High Court on September 14 during the hearing of a PIL by the Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai.
The court has decided to hear the matter appear in the second week of November to ascertain whether the initial steps have been taken and the work for setting up the plant awarded. The matter has been listed for hearing on November 7.
