The Public Works Department has invited online bids for rehabilitation of damaged pavement including metalling and blacktopping of the Rymbai-Bataw-Borghat-Jalalpur road in the border areas of East Jaiñtia Hills.
An amount of Rs 24.160 crore has been sanctioned for the road project under Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) on March 30 this year.
The work for improvement of the 30 km road will benefit residents of Rymbai, Umsatai, Ladwah Wapung, Deiñsatlang, Pynurkba, Bataw, Umlynsha, Lakadong Umlatdoh, Lama, Natbor, Borghat, Pdeiñwahkhynriaw, Demlakadong, Kwator, Hingaria etc which are located close to the border with Bangladesh.
The decision by the PWD to invite bids for the road project has come as a relief for villagers of these areas who have experienced untold sufferings for the past 15 years due to the deplorable condition of the existing road especially during monsoon.
Meanwhile, headmen of these villages have requested the contractors who were selected for the project to ensure that the road was properly constructed with good quality and durability since it is the only lifeline for the farmers of the area to transport their produce to markets in Khliehriat and Jowai.
