United Democratic Party (UDP) president Metbah Lyngdoh today said that the party will clinch half of the seats in the upcoming Assembly elections, next year.
“In 1998 the UDP secured 20 seats and led the government. In the 2023 election the party should secure more than 30 seats and it can be done by listening to the voice of the people,” Lyngdoh said during the inauguration of the party office at Bomfyle road in Laitumkhrah to celebrate its 25th foundation day.
“People are not fools, but innocent and taken advantage of. All we need is to listen to the voice of the people and not money power,” the Speaker said.
Party leader and MDC, Paul Lyngdoh said that the task of rebuilding Meghalaya has begun and that the party should work harder to send a UDP MP to the Parliament.
Senior UDP leader, Bindo M Lanong said that the party should root out corruption and the corrupt should not lead the state.
Vice president, Allantry F Dkhar said, “This is a new beginning. From today onwards we are rededicating ourselves to the principal values of the party represented by the colour of its flag. Red – sacrifice, valor and bravery, white- peace, prosperity and green growth. We performed our role in such a manner that we have no other way but to grow and achieve greater heights together with the people of the State,” he said.
UDP leader and Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and UDP Working president and KHADC CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne also spoke on the occasion.
