The 75th birth anniversary of the late Purno Agitok Sangma, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Speaker of the Lok Sabha, was observed across different states in the country today.
In Meghalaya, the various units of the National People’s Party paid tribute and recalled Sangma’s contribution to further the cause of tribal, indigenous people, minorities and weaker sections of society.
In Tura, NPP chief and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Tura MP Agatha K Sangma paid tribute to their late father, who died in 2016, at the graveyard where the leader was laid to rest.
Party leaders converged at District Auditorium in Tura to pay tribute, recollecting their personal experience with the revered personality. A cake to mark the occasion was cut by Conrad along with other leaders of the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Conrad said that ideals and legacy of Sangma will live on forever.
The NPP chief said that it was Sangma’s vision that has led to the NPP being a national party based in the North East that truly represents the voice of the region.
