Senior All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MLA Zenith Sangma has accused the MDA government of renaming all the schemes launched during Dr. Mukul Sangma’s tenure and claiming them as schemes launched by the present government.
He was addressing a gathering at Ampati, West Garo Hills where the party welcomed several new members.
Accusing the MDA government of “duplicitous intentions”, Zenith said, “The MDA government stopped welfare schemes and services that were initiated by Dr. Mukul Sangma. Now, they are showing the same welfare schemes and services with different names. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma claims that he has developed the State through PMGSY and also brought other funds. Has he forgotten that the PMGSY is a scheme of the Government of India?”
Zenith also slammed the ineptitude of the MDA government and said the government was so corrupt and has neglected the people.
“In the last election, we won 21 seats and the NPP won 19 seats. Despite winning more seats, the NPP formed the government because other parties joined hands with them. Now, after forming the government, they have completely forgotten about development. The reality is that they are corrupt and do not have any intention to work for the welfare of the State and the people,” he said.
Zenith also said that the MDA government continued to strategise how to retain power rather than addressing the substandard educational infrastructure and infrastructural collapse in the State.
AITC MLA Dikkanchi D. Shira who also spoke at the meeting castigated the MDA government over abysmal maternal healthcare conditions in the State.
“Many pregnant women lost their children in their wombs. I wanted to build a hospital for them, but the MDA government came in between,” she said.
Pointing to the declining quality of education in the State, Shira said, “In the elections, Conrad Sangma said that education would be his priority; however, the reality is that we have ranked at the third last.”
Expressing her concern for the deplorable road condition in the State including Garo Hills, she said, “Many people lost their lives due to the bad condition of Dalu Road. All of these need immediate redressal. Dr. Mukul Sangma knows how to work for rural people since he was brought up in a rural area. If he is elected as a chief minister, the State will flourish in every aspect.”
The meeting was also attended by party MLA Winnerson D. Sangma, newly joined leader Adolf Lu Hitler Marak along with other party leaders.
