The All Jaiñtia Muster Roll Workers & Labour Union (AJMRWLU) organised its seventh general meeting at Ladjaplem, in Amlarem sub-division, here today.
The union was formed on August 17, 2018.
Labour Inspector Bethcy M Toi explained that there are important government schemes for workers’ welfare that the union members should take advantage of, such as PM-SYM, which provides pensions and life insurance for unorganised workers. Toi also mentioned schemes for construction workers, who are eligible for government aid in case they are injured or killed on the job.
Khroo L Pariat, adviser to the All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union, urged the workers and labourers to be united and to eschew corruption and those people who tempt others for their own good.
Those who took part in the general meeting included muster roll workers, mid day meal workers, masons and shopkeepers.
The union also appealed to the state government to implement an order of the Finance Department to promote muster roll workers who have been employed for more than five years to the semi-skilled category.
