Over 80 students including past pupils of the Bachelor of Computer Applications Department at Lady Keane College, Shillong graduated from the “FastFORWARD – Improving Employability on Campuses: Foundation in Career Skills” programme.
The programme which is being implemented by Avenues seeks to address the critical gap that exists between formal education and life preparedness of the youth by equipping young adults in higher educational institutions, with the skills and coping strategies required to live more wholesome, productive lives, encouraging welfare and success on the personal and professional fronts as they leave school and college.
According to Avenues, the modules under the FastFORWARD curriculum help prepare youth with a strong foundation in employable skill sets, by instilling improved confidence, communication and public speaking skills, emotional resilience, interview handling, creative problem-solving, strategic thinking, team building, leadership traits, consensus building, personal growth and wellbeing.
Addressing the graduates at the function today, Lady Keane College Principal, D. K. B. Mukhim said, “I am sure that the students have gained a lot of confidence from this training and their skills are now fast-forwarded to help them face their future and move ahead in life.”
BashishaThabah, a third semester student spoke about how skills learned from such programmes inspire the students with hope to choose their own career paths and achieve their aspirations.
One of the past pupils of the college, Fancy Mylliem Umlong said, “Programmes like these help us become mentally and emotionally prepared for the world of work.”
Avenues founder and CEO, Mark Laitflang Stone lauded the efforts of the college referring to it as “a powerful institution for change” by providing their students with opportunities for personal growth and improved clarity in life.
Speaking to the graduates, he said, “Change is a very important word. What must change about you is not who you are inside, but who and what you choose to leave behind, and where you choose to go.” He urged the students to embrace change with courage and self-belief.
