Jowai’s Thomas Jones Synod College inaugurated its new science block at a function organised to commemorate the institute’s 25th anniversary today.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma did the honours in the presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla.
The new building was funded by the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
Speaking on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations, the Sangma said that the youth are the most important resource of the state and the government has adopted a focused approach to constantly engage with them in order to create the right environment and ecosystem for their development.
“I call the youth our strength and it is the responsibility of society and the government to create the right environment to channelise and direct the energy of the youth into the right things,” he said, pointing to initiatives and programmes begun by his government in areas ranging from education, entrepreneurship, music to sports.
During the function, the CM also informed the gathering that sanction has been accorded for different development initiatives to uplift the civil infrastructure and beautification of Jowai town, including the construction of a Mini Secretariat.
