One person died and two others were seriously injured after the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided with an SUV today afternoon on National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi.
The accident occurred at around 2:30pm at Pahammawlein.
The autorickshaw (ML 10 B 3474) was travelling on the wrong side of the highway when a speeding Ford Endeavour (ML 10 C 5786) struck it, crushing the front of the three-wheeler.
The driver of the autorickshaw, identified as Julius Nongsiej (28) of Umling Lymbrang, was declared dead at Nongpoh Civil Hospital. The two who were injured in the accident were identified as Silbanus Lapang of Nongkylla Byrnihat and Bijoy Makri of Sohpu Umling.
The driver of the SUV, Sartaj Ansari (19) was taken in by police for questioning.
