Altogether 13 climbers who represented the state at the North East Zone Sport Climbing Competition brought home titles and performed well at the event held at IIE, Guwahati which concluded on July 24.
In the women open category, Ngandarihun Sohshang of of Mawprem secured the third position in the ‘Lead and Speed’ climbing while Indalin Lyngdoh was placed at number 10.
In the men open category, Teimiki Sungoh, Keliostar Pdai, Rajeshphai Pdai and Ricky Rani secured the ninth, 13, 15 and 30 positions respectively.
Dadapbiang Lyngdoh secured the first position in ‘Speed and Bouldering’ climbing and Iaphilarisa Syiemlieh and Pynkmenlang Lyngdoh in the second and third positions respectively for ‘Lead’ climbing. All the three are from the sub-junior girls category.
Under sub-junior boys, Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh secured the ninth position and Mebandonlang Umsong in the 12th position.
Balawan Habor Rynjah and Leadingstar Kharbudon secured the 11 and 14 positions respectively in the junior boys category.
All the climbers were selected by the Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) for the competition to vie against 98 other climbers from different parts of the Northeastern states.
“Our climbers have performed very well despite lack of infrastructure of our own. The association needs support from the government to set up a world class climbing wall of international standard so that we can prepare and produce world class climbers from the state who can excel in the national and international competitions,” association president Malviancy Shabong said.
