The United Hynñiewtrep Movement (UHM), South West Khasi Hills District has condemned the recent attack on its president in Shillong.
UHM president Charlie J Rani was assaulted reportedly by a group of miscreants at his residence in Mawlai Mawdatbaki on July 15 where he was rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
The organisation publicity secretary, Kitbok Wanniang in a statement here today said that the attackers on that day had also attacked its Sports Secretary, Michael B. Dkhar and abducted its assistant organising secretary, George Iawphniaw at 11 am.
Wanniang said that the attackers claimed to be members of the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP).
He said an emergent meeting of all the units and circles of the UHM was held yesterday wherein they had decided that if the allegations were true about the involvement of the FKJGP in the attack, they were ready to sever ties with it.
“If our leaders have wrongfully uttered words that might have hurt anyone, that should have been cleared through a dialogue. Besides, the law is there for anyone to approach not through violence,” Wanniang said.
Further, the organisation has demand strict punishment against people responsible for the attack.
