Non-regular staff and contractual workers of NEHU resumed their silent protest and sit-in demonstration at Tura demanding an increase in their daily wages.
The protest began on June 1 and ran until July 15 when it paused after being called for discussions with the VC.
“However, the meeting with the VC led nowhere and the demands for the welfare of the long-serving labourers and staff were neglected,” the union said.
There are labourers who have worked tirelessly for 25 years and more, yet their simple and basic needs have been neglected by the administrators of the central university, the workers’ union claimed.
The VC had assured them that a committee has been set up and that it will scrutinise the demands but this has been dismissed by the union as a lie.
