The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) has expressed its condolences following the death of Prof. Nirmal Kr. Sarkar, former Vice Principal of Shillong College.
Prof Sarkar, who was ill for some time, passed away yesterday Wednesday in Shillong. He was 77.
In a release today, the MRCTA said Prof Sarkar was also the founder member of the association. He joined Shillong College in 1969 as lecturer in English and retired in 2005. He was a very popular and student-friendly teacher, and was also involved with many academic, social and cultural organisations during his entire service career and even after retirement till his death.
The MRCTA wished that the bereaved family, especially his wife, Roma Sarkar, former Head of the Department of Botany of Shillong College, be given with strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
