Union Christian College (UCC) and the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) organised a one day national seminar on ‘Governance and Development in Meghalaya’ yesterday at Union Christian College.
Prof B Panda, honorary director of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC) was the chief guest and V Bijukumar, Associate Professor, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), delivered a keynote address.
In the seminar, 11 papers were presented by academics belonging to different universities/colleges from within the state and other parts of the country.
The various aspects of governance and development were touched upon by the resource persons, including mining, forest and environment, water, education, road and transportation, health, income, employment and tourism.
Prof LS Gassah, former professor of Political Science, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Prof K Debbarma, Dean at NEHU’s School of Social Sciences moderated the technical sessions of the seminar. Besides academics, other prominent members of society also participated in the seminar.
The seminar was organized as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the MCTA and the observation of the 70th year of foundation of UCC.
