Presidential candidate of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Draupadi Murmu will visit Meghalaya tomorrow to mobilise support from MLAs and MPs of the State.
Murmu will address all MLAs and MPs of the State at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam tomorrow afternoon.
Murmu is backed by BJP and its allies in the NDA besides many other political parties for the Presidential election scheduled on July 18. Her opponent is former Union minister Yashwant Sinha who is the joint candidate of the opposition parties.
Tomorrow morning, Murmu will land at Itanagar to seek support from MLAs and MPs of Arunachal Pradesh. From there, she will arrive at Umroi airport and go straight to Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam for the meeting with Meghalaya MLAs and MPs.
On July 7, she will have a meeting with MLAs and MPs of Assam in Guwahati to seek their support.
Meanwhile, BJP National Executive Member and In-charge Presidential Election, Alexander L. Hek today appealed to all public representatives to rise above party lines to support the first tribal lady as a presidential candidate.
In a statement issued to the media, Hek said the NDA strongly believes in empowering women and uplifting tribals and backward classes.
“It will be a matter of pride and honour for all of us to have a tribal in the constitutional position of the President of India,” Hek said.
