As many as four persons have been arrested in connection with two kidnapping cases in West Garo Hills.
In one of the kidnapping cases, three youths were arrested for assault and abduction attempt of one person.
According to police, on July 1, information was received at Selsella police outpost that on June 30 at around 5:30 pm, one person escaped an abduction attempt while he was returning from Selsella Block Office, Selsella after attending a meeting.
He informed that Nur Alom of Sakmal village and Nazidur Islam of Kandergaon village, both under Rajabala police outpost attacked him at Haldibari and attempted to take him in their vehicle. However, he managed to escape.
Later, the two accused persons attacked him again on the same day between Haldibari and Babetpara village but he was saved by four good Samaritans who then escorted him to his home at Rajabala.
On receipt of the information, a case was immediately registered at Tura police station and investigated by sub-inspector Rhenius R. Sangma.
Yesterday, police arrested three persons namely Nur Alom (23), Moshaidul Sheikh (22), and Nazidur Rehman (23). They are all from villages in Phulbari area. They have been forwarded to court even as police said that investigation is continuing and a charge sheet would be filed soon.
In another incident, a woman and her child were rescued from her abductor in Assam yesterday.
According to police, on June 22 last, information was received at Phulbari police station that two days back some unknown miscreants abducted a woman and her one-and-half-year-old baby from Rongkon Bazar.
On receipt of information, a case was immediately registered at Tura women police station and the investigation was entrusted to women police sub-inspector Chemetengsil A. Sangma.
During investigation, it was learnt that yesterday the victims had been taken to Dhubri district of Assam and kept in confinement at a place called Beltuli under Bilasipara police station.
In order to rescue the victims, a joint operation was conducted immediately by West Garo Hills police and Dhubri police. The abducted victim and her baby was rescued and brought to Tura today morning
One of the abductors identified as Moni Zaman (23) from Shvamding village in Phulbari was arrested and forwarded to court.
Police said the accused person has been threatening the girl and her family members continuously. He allegedly created ruckus in the shop of the father of the woman thrice this year – on March 31, April 8 and April 9.
