The safety audit team looking into the collapsed dome at the new Assembly building will be able to ascertain the strength of the still standing part of the structure within a few days.
This was informed by the Speaker of the Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh, today.
The audit, which began last week, is being carried out by a team from IIT Guwahati. The under-construction central dome collapsed around midnight on May 22. The rest of the building is still standing.
“I think that in a week or 10 days’ time, they (IIT Guwahati) will be able to tell us the strength of the building which is on the left and right of the dome and maybe part of the central hall as well which hasn’t been damaged,” Lyngdoh said.
Despite the massive embarrassment and calls from the opposition and even the Bharatiya Janata Party for a full investigation, the government has tried to brazen out the disaster and has even talked of sticking with the plan for a massive dome over the new building.
