The managing committee of an upper primary school in Ri-Bhoi district has decided to reinstate a teacher back in service and release of all her dues following an order by the Meghalaya High Court.
Multisha Kharlor, an assistant teacher at Umterlen Nongtluh Upper Primary School was given back her job a few days back after she was terminated from service by the managing committee of the school in 2019.
Kharlor had to approach the High Court in 2019 after she was sacked from service.
After the order of the High Court on February 24 this year, the State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SEMAM) conducted an inquiry into the matter.
In its findings, the SEMAM said that the termination of Kharlor’s service was done without the approval of the competent authority. It also said that deduction of teacher’s salary was illegal. It also said that the decision of the village dorbar in connivance with the school managing committee to excommunicate Kharlor from the village is against the fundamental rights of an Indian citizen.
On the basis of the findings, the State Project Director, SSA directed the school managing committee to refund the salary deducted from Kharlor with effect from September 1, 2013 to December 31, 2016 amounting to Rs 1,96,000. The order also directed for reinstatement of Kharlor in service and also for release of the pending salary withheld from the date of termination of her service till date.
