Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) seized medicines, cosmetics and clothing worth more than Rs 20 lakh at different locations on the international border while being smuggled to Bangladesh yesterday.
Acting on reliable information, BSF troops deployed in West Jaintia Hills planned an operation and foiled the smuggling attempt by seizing medicines consisting of various tablets, ointments and syrups totalling Rs 10.90 lakh.
In separate incidents, BSF troops confiscated a huge quantity of cosmetics and clothing from South West Khasi Hills and East Khasi hills.
One Bangladesh national, Feroz Ali (18), a resident of Sylhet, was apprehended by the BSF in Pyrdiwah, East Khasi Hills, while carrying cosmetics illegally from India into Bangladesh. The cosmetics were valued at Rs 9 lakh.
